Inventory

ABC Analysis

An inventory categorization method that ranks items by their consumption value into A, B, and C classes.

ABC analysis applies the Pareto principle to inventory: typically about 20% of SKUs (the A items) drive 80% of value. Companies use ABC classes to focus tighter controls, more frequent cycle counts, and higher service levels on the most important items, while applying lighter controls to lower-value B and C items.
