CFS (Container Freight Station)
A facility where LCL shipments are consolidated into or deconsolidated from ocean containers.
At origin, a CFS receives smaller shipments from multiple shippers, consolidates them into a single container, and tenders it to the carrier. At destination, the CFS unloads and sorts cargo for individual consignees. CFS handling fees are a standard cost element of LCL freight.
