Freight Class
A standardized NMFC rating system (50–500) used to price LTL shipments based on density.
Freight class is a standardized pricing system for LTL freight established by the NMFC (National Motor Freight Classification). Classes range from 50 (highest density, lowest cost per pound) to 500 (lowest density, highest cost per pound). Freight class is determined by four characteristics: density, stowability, handling, and liability.
