Bill of Lading (BOL)
A legal document issued by a carrier that serves as a receipt, contract, and title for shipped goods.
A Bill of Lading (BOL or B/L) is a critical shipping document that serves three functions: (1) a receipt acknowledging that the carrier has received the goods, (2) a contract of carriage between shipper and carrier, and (3) a document of title that can transfer ownership of goods. BOLs are required for virtually all freight shipments.
